Jefferson County elementary principal held on incest charge

Authorities say a Jefferson County elementary school principal has been arrested on charges of aggravated incest and sexual assault on a child.

The sheriff’s department said Tuesday the person the principal is accused of assaulting was not a student at the principal’s school.

The Associated Press is not using the principal’s name or school to protect the identity of the victim of the alleged attacks.

Online jail records didn’t indicated whether the principal had an attorney who could respond to the charges.

Authorities say the alleged assaults occurred more than 10 years ago.

Jefferson County Public Schools spokeswoman Lisa Pinto says the principal has been placed on administrative leave.

The principal is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
