Interstate 25-Cimarron St. project begins soon

One of the area’s highest-priority transportation projects is scheduled to begin in two months.

The Colorado Department of Transportation is overseeing a $116 million interchange improvement at Interstate 25 and Cimarron Street.

CDOT spokesman Bob Wilson said work begins in May and should be completed by December 2017.

Wilson said crews are doing preliminary work to prepare staging areas for equipment and materials.

“People won’t see traffic impacts or lane closures until 2016,” he said. “That’s our way of trying to minimize traffic impacts.”

Another high-priority project — improving the interchange at Interstate 25 and Fillmore Street — is already underway.
