Moratorium could lead to the sale of recreational marijuana in the future

You could soon start applying for a license to sell recreational marijuana in Pueblo.

It all depends on a City Council vote Monday night.

The council will decide whether to extend the moratorium on recreational marijuana establishments.

If approved, the ban will be in place until April 27.

The moratorium started in May 2013.

Council President Steve Nawrocki said that will be enough time for the city to decide on the regulations and vote on it.

“By then, we will have been able to gather all of our ducks in a row, in terms of using the model from Aurora to proceed with licensing retail marijuana shops,” he said.

If the moratorium is extended, Nawrocki said council members will travel to Aurora to see how recreational marijuana is regulated there.

The vote is set to happen at city hall at 7 p.m. Monday.
