Killer whose sentence was commuted faces DUI charge

Colorado Springs Police say a man who was released from prison after being convicted of killing his mother is now accused of driving drunk.

Charles Limbrick, 41, was arrested Wednesday following a crash that left one person seriously injured.

The crash happened at the intersection of Circle Dr. and Constitution Ave. on March 4, 2015.

Police say a Dodge van driven by Limbrick was traveling north on Circle near Alpine Dr. when it sideswiped another northbound vehicle from behind.

Police say Limbrick then drove away, and that as he did, he crashed into the back of a Chrysler Pacifica. The impact pushed the Pacifica into the intersection of Circle and Constitution.

The driver of the Pacifica was seriously injured, according to police.

Investigators say they determined that Limbrick had been drinking. He was arrested and is facing charges for vehicular assault, DUI, careless driving and other traffic related charges.

Limbrick was released from prison in 2011 after serving 23 years in prison for murdering his mother when he was 15. He was released after his 40 year sentence was commuted.

Limbrick granted his first interview after being released from prison to KRDO NewsChannel 13.
