AMR winter service calls increase

It has been a busy winter for American Medical Response in Pueblo County.

AMR has received more than 7,000 service calls since last December. Operations Supervisor Jason Burns said that’s an unusually high number of calls for the season.

Burns said one reason is because icy weather is causing car accidents along with slip-and-fall mishaps.

With more snow expected in Pueblo Sunday night, AMR is preparing for another busy night. It will have more staff on call and extra medical equipment.

Burns said saving people can be a challenge in the winter.

“We have to get from point A to point B as safely as possible. The snow and ice levels the playing field for everyone, and of course everything is going to slow down, including our responses,” he said.

The calls are both emergency and non-emergency.
