Weather possible cause for water main break
Cold weather is a possible cause for a water main break that happened in an eastern Colorado Springs neighborhood.
The break happened at around 11 a.m. on Serendipity Circle, near Carefree Circle and Academy Boulevard.
Colorado Springs Utilities said six customers were affected by the break for more than five hours.
It said the break happened possibly because of old pipe and the weather.
Josh Janssen lives in the neighborhood. He said the break happened fast.
“It started as just a leak, but as the water started to shut off, the road started to collapse. It was about a 30 minute process, but the hole was 20 feet wide 15 feet deep. It was big enough to fit two cars,” he said.
Springs Utilties said permanent repairs on the road will depend on the weather.
