US to spend $57 million more on stream damage from ’13 flood
The federal government will spend another $57 million on recovery work on waterways damaged by the 2013 flood in Colorado.
The Agriculture Department said Thursday the funds will pay for restoring stream corridors, removing debris and preventing future floods at about 500 sites.
The September 2013 flood caused an estimated $3 billion in damage to 18 Colorado counties along the Front Range and eastern plains.
Nine people were killed by the flood and a 10th died in the recovery effort.
Federal officials say the new work builds on nearly $13 million spent on similar projects in 2013.
The Colorado spending is part of $84 million in federal aid announced Thursday for disaster recovery efforts in 13 states, including damage from rain and tornadoes in Florida and Alabama last year.
