More snow frustrates workers in downtown Colorado Springs

If you were an employee in downtown Colorado Springs on Thursday morning, you couldn’t win for losing because of another snowy day.

People who began plowing or shoveling slow as early as 2 a.m. and made progress clearing streets and sidewalks found their efforts covered in a new blanket of snow by 9 a.m.

“It’s been pretty brutal out here,” said Sony Hohulin, a worker who was clearing corners at intersections. “We get it cleared, and (snow) comes down again. It’s kind of like lawn mowing. You just keep doing it.”

Still, the new snow produced no significant accumulation and generally left streets wet and slushy.

Sam Eppley, the owner of a cookware store on Tejon Street, didn’t hire anyone to shovel his sidewalk. He preferred to do it himself.

“The snow has slowed business down a bit,” he said. “But it also has brought in customers who have kids home from school and want to have fun cooking.”

More snow is in the forecast, along with more shoveling, plowing and ice melt. But not everyone is complaining. Two new residents — one from Arizona, the other from Florida — said the snow and cold is a nice change for them.
