Colombian arrested during Colorado pot raids pleads guilty

One of four men indicted in connection with large-scale raids on medical marijuana businesses has pleaded guilty under an agreement that requires him to cooperate against his co-defendants.

Hector Diaz pleaded guilty Monday to visa fraud in facilitation of drug trafficking and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute marijuana. Prosecutors agreed to drop other charges against Diaz, who was indicted after federal agents raided more than a dozen medical marijuana stores and grows in 2013. Diaz, a Colombian citizen, faced illegal weapon possession charges after investigators unearthed photos of him wearing a U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency cap while holding semi-automatic rifles and handguns.

Prosecutors say Diaz transferred money from a Colombian bank to an account for a shell metals company to buy a building to grow and distribute marijuana.
