COS streets division preparing for heavy snowfall
The Colorado Springs streets division is getting ready for heavy snowfall this weekend.
Crews are on call monitoring the weather and road conditions, the city said. The streets division manager said he expects 35 to 40 snowplows to be clearing the streets by Saturday.
As the storm progresses primary routes, multi-lane roads with large volumes of traffic, will be treated first, the city said in a press release. Once the primary routes are passable, snow crews move on to secondary routes, which are collector streets that serve as the main connections between neighborhoods and primary roads. If there is continuous snowfall, the primary routes may have to be plowed more than once, which will delay the response on Secondary Streets.
Residential streets are only treated when at least 6 inches of snow accumulates, the primary and secondary routes have been cleared and the snow has stopped falling.
Crews remind drivers to give snowplows enough room on the roads to do their work. Their best recommendation is to stay off the roads altogether.
