Denver-area school board won’t review AP US history

The chairman of the Jefferson County school board says there are no plans to review the new Advanced Placement U.S. history curriculum.

Ken Witt said Thursday that the proposal which sparked protests by hundreds of students in suburban Denver last fall is no longer being considered by the board.

At the time, the board never acted directly on the proposal. Members instead broadened representation on the committee that reviews curriculum but left open the possibility that it could review AP history.

In response to inquiries from the public, Witt said the school board recently stated that it would not pursue the policy.

Witt and other conservative board members faulted the curriculum for its anti-American bias but Witt says College Board has since made some improvements to the curriculum.
