Southern Colorado gears up for more snow

Snow started to fall Sunday afternoon ahead of Monday’s commute.

Two cars rolled into ditches off Highway 24 near Garrett Road in El Paso County.

One driver was trapped in the car and had to be rescued by emergency crews. No one was seriously injured in the two crashes.

Colorado Springs streets division said its trucks will be monitoring conditions around the city. Supervisor Jack Ladley issued a city-wide call for a full shift of plows at 6:20 p.m. as conditions on roads worsened.

Ladley said in a press release the city’s morning shift of plow drivers will prepared to respond if needed.

Hikers climbed the Manitou Springs Incline despite Sunday’s chilly temperatures.

There were far fewer people trekking up the incline than on a typical warm-weather weekend day. However, several people said the cold temperatures and smaller crowd drove them to the local hotspot.

“It’s kind of nicer, nicer atmosphere. It maybe takes a little of the pain of stress going up, just watching the flakes and fog and enjoying the day,” said Craig Greenfields.
