Police: Man killed after jumping onto hood of car to stop woman from driving drunk
The Monte Vista Police Department says a man was killed after he jumped onto the hood of a car to try to stop a woman from driving drunk.
The incident was reported at 10:22 p.m. on February 15, 2015. It happened near the intersection of Eighth St. and Monroe St.
Kendrick Marquez, 25, was rushed to the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa, but the doctors there were unable to save him.
Police say that Marquez and Autumn Martinez, 21, got into a fight and that Marquez jumped onto the hood of the car as Martinez tried to drive away. Police say Martinez crashed the car into a tree, which is apparently when Marquez was mortally wounded.
Autumn Martinez faces charges for vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
The Monte Vista Police Department is calling the incident a domestic violence case, but was unable to confirm the nature of the relationship between Marquez and Martinez.
