Paid broadcast/digital producing internship

KRDO News Channel 13 is accepting resumes for a paid broadcast/digital producing intern.

We offer real-world, hands-on experience with the goal of preparing producer candidates for full-time employment in our Colorado Springs, CO newsroom.

The KRDO internship is open to currently enrolled college/university juniors, seniors, and graduate students; recent college/university graduates are also eligible. Preference will be given to students who plan to live and work in the Colorado Springs area or one of the other 9 News-Press and Gazette broadcast markets: http://npgco.com

Eligibility requirements:

Intern candidates must be currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from a program for Journalism, Broadcasting, English or a related field. Must be available to work up to 40 hours per week for a 12 week period between the months of June and August; days and hours will vary to coincide with college schedule. Must possess excellent communication skills. Must be a voracious news consumer conversant in current events.

Creative individuals with superior writing/communications skills are encouraged to apply. Duties include assisting newscast producers, digital content producers and assignment editors.

We offer a competitive hourly wage; interns are not eligible for insurance benefits, holiday pay or PTO; internship employment is contingent upon the successful outcome of a background check and drug screening.

Job Title: Broadcast/Digital Producer Intern
Status: Non-exempt

Essential Duties:

Assist producers with researching and writing/publishing assigned stories Assist assignment editors with story research and daily beat calls Assist digital producers with copy editing and attaching video &/or photo slideshows Assist broadcast producers in the booth Assist marketing producers in relaying story information from field crews Attend daily editorial meetings and provide vetted story ideas Developing Chyron maps and graphics to enhance the visual impact of local stories Check spelling and grammar on broadcast and digital scripts Enter headline and weather information on lower-third text-based crawl Monitor scanners and social media feeds and relay information to producers, assignment editors &/or managers Monitor station competitors and relay information to producers, assignment editors &/or managers Attend post-newscast meetings and assist producers with discrepancy reports. Meet all assigned production deadlines Work overtime, irregular/odd hours, weekends and holidays as needed; be available to work breaking news stories as needed Work as team with production staff, talent, clients and other departments on developing and completing production projects Adhere to all guidelines, policies and procedures of the station, NPG, the FCC and all other federal, state and local laws Additional responsibilities as assigned by news management

Preferred Skills/Education and Certification:

Preference will be given to students engaged in an Accredited Internship course, but not mandatory Voracious news consumer who is conversant in current events. Energetic with motivational skills; team player/leader Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Strong writing skills Strong communication/people skills Proficient in CMS/Web publishing Computer literate
