War veteran gets new bike after losing leg in crash

The biggest step in Lynn Stuart’s recovery has finally been achieved. He’s back riding a motorcycle after losing his leg in a crash.

“It’s just been phenomenal,” he said. “This one is a lot different than the one I had before. This one is about 80 pounds heavier.”

Watching the Army veteran walk around, showing off his new bike, you’d hardly believe the last one he had looked mangled after colliding with a car in October.

“I was on 24 highway, got to the intersection of 31st Street. I was going through the intersection. The car was in the lane to go straight, then all of a sudden made a left hand turn,” he said. “They hit me and crushed my left leg.”

His leg couldn’t be saved, so now Stuart wears a prosthetic.

“This is just a temporary one, and they use this one to make the adjustments before the permanent one,” he said.

But for Stuart, riding motorcycles is a passion, one he wouldn’t give up.

“The really tough spots were me being on the crutches, trying to do things that I couldn’t do at the moment. Would I get upset? Sure. Would it stop me? No,” he said.

A local motorcycle shop knew about that passion, so it went to great lengths, making his new bike accessible for him.

Now, he can finally ride again.

“Things happen, you can’t give up, you’ve gotta push through it,” he said.

Stuart says he’ll get his permanent prosthetic in a couple of weeks. His doctors say that’s months faster than usual for his injury.
