Man convicted of gunning down two people at a Colorado Springs intersection

A man who shot two people to death at a Colorado Springs intersection in 2013 will spend the rest of his life in prison.

A jury found Gary Glen Vigil guilty of two counts of first degree murder on February 11, 2015. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Vigil shot and killed Camille Root, 24, and Daniel Castaneda, 22, at the intersection of Platte Ave. and Juanita St. on August 10, 2013. Police received the call at 10:44 p.m.

“You know, there can never really be justice for losing somebody,” Castaneda’s mother said after sentencing. “But we prayed and prayed and we got what we’ve been asking for and we got as much as we could.”

Vigil turned himself in to police in Texas in December 2013.
