Hartsel man killed in Highway 24 crash

Colorado State Patrol says a man from Hartsel died after crashing his car on Wilkerson Pass.

The accident was reported at 9:39 a.m. on February 11, 2015.

Investigators say a 2000 Dodge Ram pickup was traveling eastbound on Highway 24 when it went off the left side of the road. The truck slid sideways down an embankment. It rolled once.

Eugene Carle, 66, of Hartsel was thrown from the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say Carle was not wearing a seat belt.

Investigators say they do not suspect drugs, alcohol or excessive speed. They say the roads were icy and slushy at the time of the accident.
