Update: Pueblo man dies after being tossed from SUV then run over by train

The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office identified the man killed in a horrific crash early Sunday. He is 18-year-old Eric Velasquez.

Police said the driver of a SUV lost control just after midnight Sunday (8/10) on I-25 near the 13th Street exit, rolling over and throwing him from the SUV.

Two 16-year-old boys were taken to the hospital, one has life threatening injuries.

Velasquez was thrown from the SUV and landed on the nearby train tracks. A train was headed southbound on the tracks and was unable to stop in time, hitting him.

Pueblo police say that speed appears to have played a role in the accident but police are still investigating. The road was closed for around six hours as police investigated.

Anyone who wants to help his family is asked to donate to the Eric Velasquez Memorial Fund at Power Credit Union.
