Missing car sought after suspicious death & fire in Fountain
Fountain police are searching for a car that belongs to a person who was found dead in a home on the southeast side Wednesday.
Fountain firefighters found a body inside of a burning home in the 900 block of Candlestar Loop S., but police don’t believe the fire was the cause of death. Officers are calling the death and the fire suspicious.
Police say a car that belongs to the person who died is missing. The white 2006 Suzuki Reno hatchback has Colorado License plates with plate number 312-RXK.
Police also said they are looking for an unknown number of “persons of interest” who may know where the car is. Details about those “persons of interest” have not been released.
Police say the person who died was a renter. They say the owner of the home has been questioned and is being cooperative.
“It’s a very quite neighborhood, a wonderful family neighborhood. It’s a shock that this would happen,” said neighbor, Kelly Dunkan.
“I’ve been out in Fountain since 1977, but I’ve never seen anything like this before. It sounds like it’s suspicious,” said Gary Baker, another neighbor.
Police say they don’t believe the death and the fire are connected. That’s why the Colorado Bureau of Investigations is now involved.
Police have not released any details about the person who died.
An autopsy is planned for Thursday.
