Bicyclist killed in crash

A bicyclist was killed in a crash early Monday morning in Colorado Springs.

The crash happened on Powers Boulevard near Palmer Park Boulevard around 12:45 a.m.

Colorado State Patrol said the bicyclist was crossing Powers in a non-cross zone when a car struck the bicyclist.

The bicyclist is a 28-year-old man from North Dakota. Troopers say he was wearing relatively dark clothing, had no reflective items on his bicycle, and was not wearing a helmet. His name will not be released until his family has been notified.

The driver, 19-year-old Garrett Evans of Fountain, was wearing a seat belt, and was not hurt in the crash. He is not facing any charges at this time.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
