Southern Colorado dodges a winter bullet
Remember when car washes were packed because it was sunny and so warm?
There are no lines like those this weekend.
“I see a lot of people driving a little wishy-washy out here so it gets a little scary sometimes,” said Nick Wherry, who just moved to Colorado Springs from Wisconsin.
This week, temperatures dropped from daytime highs of 60 earlier this week to 30s and snow Saturday.
Jack Frost didn’t exactly punch his way back to southern Colorado. In fact, it was barely a nudge.
It doesn’t look like it’s sticking, it just falls and melts and nothing major.
“When winter starts back home in Wisconsin, it’s like that all year. There’s no sun,” Wherry said.
Actually, he felt Mother Nature let him down..
“I was hoping for a big one, I wanted to go snowboarding out here a whole bunch. It’s kind of disappointing. Everyone says this is a really weak winter,” Wherry said.
“It’s nice to get those warmer sunny days when you can pop out and take a hike or whatever,” said Colorado Springs native Jordan Helm. “But then you kind of expect it to be snowy or cold and cuddle up in front of the fireplace with a book or a movie and hang out.”
Others natives just accept this roller coaster as normal.
“It is January after all. I’m not surprised that it’s kind of nasty,” Helm said. “It’s Colorado. I guess it’ll be sunny here in five minutes.”
