Hard times are looming for steelworkers in the Steel City
Steelworkers in Pueblo say they’ll face tough times with temporary layoffs.
Evraz Steel said low oil prices and a reduction in drilling programs are to blame.
Eddie Barela is one of the 200 workers who will be laid off. He said life is going to be hard without earning a paycheck.
“For me, I own a home; I have to pay my mortgage. I have to put food on the table. The big thing is health insurance. I’m a diabetic so I have to make sure I have my health insurance,” he said.
The layoffs are set to begin on Saturday.
The iQor call center in Pueblo also announced it will cut more than 250 jobs by March.
