Pueblo OIS may be the first to be captured by body camera in Colorado history
Pueblo police say one of the officers involved in Sunday’s shootout with 26-year-old Orlando Jude Lopez, was wearing a body camera.
Those cameras were just issued last week.
It is believed it was the first time a body camera captured an officer-involved shooting in Colorado history.
Longtime Judge Victor Reyes believes those cameras will capture valuable evidence for investigations and court cases.
“I think this brings more transparency, more honesty to the system because people have a tendency to believe what they see with their eyes,” Reyes said.
The video from Sunday’s shooting is being treated as evidence and won’t be released while the investigation is ongoing according to officials.
The Pueblo Police Department is planning a press conference on Wednesday to discuss the new body cameras and the department’s policies regarding them.
