Opponents of Christo’s river project plan to file appeal

A group opposing artist Christo’s plan to hang nearly 6 miles of silvery fabric in sections over the Arkansas River says it will appeal a recent federal court ruling supporting the Bureau of Land Management’s approval of the project.

The Denver Post reports Rags Over the Arkansas River, or ROAR, filed a notice in U.S. District Court on Monday that it would appeal the federal court’s Jan. 8 judgment that the BLM’s approval of the project did not violate environmental laws.

Christo has spent more than 19 years on his plan to drape fabric over the river between Salida and Canon City in southern Colorado. The project would take more than two years to erect and would be on display for two weeks.

ROAR argues it could disrupt wildlife and traffic.
