Low voter turnout for special Pueblo election

Less than 20 percent of registered voters in District 1 have turned in their ballots for the special election to replace former City Councilwoman Ami Nawrocki, who faced a recall.

Former two-term city councilman and realtor Bob Schilling and Colorado Department of Transportation employee Eric Medina are running to replace Nawrocki, who resigned Jan. 13.

City clerk Gina Dutcher said as of Monday night, 2,365 ballots were returned of the 14,259 ballots that were mailed. Of the returned ballots, Dutcher said ten were rejected for several reasons, including those that weren’t signed. Dutcher also said that 18 ballots were returned as undeliverable.

Last-minute voters can turn in their ballots on Tuesday at three locations: Pueblo County Courthouse at 215 W. 10 St., the Pueblo County Clerk Elections Department at 720 N. Main St., or at the City Clerk’s Office at 200 S. Main St. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

District 1 residents can also vote in person on Tuesday at the Pueblo County Clerk Elections Department from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
