Fort Carson soldiers, volunteer to be honored

Fort Carson is honoring five soldiers for leadership and performance, and an officer’s wife for volunteer work.

The soldiers will be inducted Friday into the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club, which honors non-commissioned officers for helping with the training and welfare of soldiers and showing concern for soldiers’ families.

The club is named for a highly decorated soldier in World War II.

Those being honored are Sgt. 1st Class Isagani Maawac, Staff Sgt. Gregory Holman, Staff Sgt. Samantha Parker, Staff Sgt. Howard Fitzhugh IV and Staff Sgt. Kris McGourty.

Jennifer Antonia, wife of Col. Bruce Antonia, will receive the Dr. Mary E. Walker Award for volunteer work to improved the lives of soldiers and their families.

The award is named for the only woman to receive the Medal of Honor.
