Snow slowing travel by ground and by air

Flights were delayed and crashes were commonplace as a January snow storm settled in over eastern Colorado Wednesday (1/21/15).

Northbound I-25 is closed at mile marker 108 north of Pueblo because of a jackknifed semi.

The FAA put Denver International Airport on a ground delay for most of the day. It said the average delay was 48 minutes. The ground delay has been lifted and air traffic is expected to return to normal.

The Colorado Springs Airport did not report many delays Wednesday morning, but travelers are urged to check with their airline before heading to either airport.

Colorado State Patrol is on Accident Alert (cold reporting) for El Paso, Teller, Pueblo, Huerfano and Las Animas counties. The Colorado Springs and Fountain Police Departments are also on accident alert. Crashes that don’t involve injuries, drugs or alcohol should be reported online as soon as possible.

The KRDO.com Travel Tracker showed northbound highway 85/87 was closed at Magrath Ave. in Fountain for much of the late morning and early afternoon. It has since reopened.

The Colorado Springs Police Department sent a tweet earlier in the day urging drivers to stay off of the roads in the northern part of the city because of the icy conditions.
