Police say officer bitten by man during arrest

Colorado Springs Police say an officer was bit on the hand during an arrest Wednesday morning.

Officers were called to a report of a family fight in the 800 block of S. Circle Drive at 4:34 a.m. on January 21, 2015.

Police say that when they arrived, a man and woman inside the apartment refused to answer the door. They say the woman eventually did come out.

Investigators say the man inside, identified by police as Everett Kirby, continued to refuse to come out of the apartment. They say Kirby had one felony warrant and two domestic violence warrants.

The police department says officers ordered Kirby out of the apartment numerous times and he still refused. The K9 unit sent a dog into the apartment to find Kirby. He was arrested soon after.

Police say Kirby bit the K9 officer on the hand during the arrest.

Kirby faces new charges of second degree assault, obstruction, resisting arrest and possession of a schedule II substance.
