NAACP president plans Colorado visit in response to blast

The national president of the NAACP is planning to visit Colorado Springs this weekend to promote unity in response to a recent explosion outside a building housing the local NAACP office.

Cornell Williams Brooks will be in the city for three days.

Rosemary Harris Lytle, president of the Colorado/Montana/Wyoming NAACP State Conference, says Brooks has been in contact with the local branch since the Jan. 6 explosion.

The blast caused only minor damage and no injuries but rattled nerves due to its proximity to the nation’s oldest civil rights organization. Federal officials say they do not know whether the NAACP was targeted but are investigating the explosion as a possible hate crime.
