Tens of thousands march in Denver marade to honor MLK

Tens of thousands of people turned out to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. in Denver’s annual marade.

They gathered in City Park for speeches by lawmakers, prayers and music before making the 3-mile walk down Colfax Avenue past the state Capitol in the 30th annual parade and march on Monday.

It was one of the biggest turnouts in recent memory. Some credited the frustration over recent police killings of unarmed black men as well as the warm weather.

Some marchers held signs with quotations from King, the slogan “Black Lives Matter” and references to Ferguson and Staten Island.

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock told the crowd that God isn’t looking for a new Martin Luther King and that everyone has a role to play in seeing justice carried out.
