Road construction to begin near Pine Creek High School

Road construction could affect your commute near Pine Creek High School.

Colorado Department of Transportation is working on the bridge near Powers Boulevard and Old Ranch Road. Crews will also construct new crosswalks and sidewalks for pedestrians.

The project is scheduled to begin Jan. 19 and will be completed in September.

Drivers have become familiar with construction zones in Colorado Springs.

“It’s kind of crazy that that’s happening because they just finished everything on I-25 and now they are starting a big project on Powers right away,” Kim Pollard said.

Her commute will change over the next few months to avoid traffic.

“I’ll take a different route, try to come another way to avoid it,” she said.

Drivers said traffic is already an issue at certain times near the high school.

“I drive through here at least once a week, sometimes twice,” Chris Taylor said. “It’s a little bit clogged up.”

Old Ranch Road will be closed between northbound and southbound Powers Boulevard starting in February. There will be detours for drivers trying to get to Pine Creek High School and nearby residential areas.

Some drivers said the upgrades are worth the wait.

“The aggravation is always there in construction,” Taylor said. “The improvements to our roadway have been really great around here.”
