Bill Cosby’s show in Pueblo brings strain to Police Department

When Memorial Hall booked Bill Cosby, they likely thought it would be a boost to the city.

Then, more than a dozen sex assault allegations were made against the comedian. Instead of a boost, it’s becoming a drain for an already cash-strapped city.

“Bill Cosby drugged me and sexually assaulted me that night,” said Cosby accuser Beth Farrier.

And, there was a similar accusation by Helen Hayes, another accuser.

“His behavior was like that of a predator,” Hayes said.

And another accusation in Cosby’s fall from grace – 24-year-old model Chloe Hoins claims Cosby drugged her drink in 2008 during a party at the Playboy Mansion.

And Friday night, Cosby will be at Memorial Hall in Pueblo.

Protests are already planned, and police are keeping a close eye on them.

“Our No. 1 goal is to make sure everyone has a safe time,” said Pueblo police Sgt. Eric Gonzales. “Make sure there’s no incidents that happen. We will have extra officers in place, yes.”

But those extra officers cost money, something the city of Pueblo doesn’t have much of, reeling from a $3 million deficit.

“Anytime we have something like this it’s a strain,” Gonzales said. “We’re shorthanded as it is, and to call officers in on overtime, it’s always a strain.”

Regardless of that strain or the turnout, Memorial Hall promises Cosby’s comedy show will go on and they won’t offer refunds.
