Drivers expect another slow morning commute

Trucks are gearing up ahead of Tuesday morning’s commute.

Freezing fog set in on Monday night. Stormtracker 13 Meteorologist Rachael Plath said the fog will freeze on the road, making the road look wet when it’s actually icy.

“If it was just straight-up snow, it would be easy. It’s the ice that is always causing the problems for motorists,” said Jack Ladley with Colorado Springs Streets Division.

He said his team hopes to make big progress overnight.

“We are going to see drizzling fog for the rest of the evening. I think that will give us an opportunity to start ‘hogging’ off the roads. Getting some heavy build up off the roads as the evening progresses,” said Ladley.

El Paso County trucks will head out at 2 a.m. Colorado Springs crews will turn over at 12 a.m.

“Again, [we will] get focused on getting the heavy snow off as long as mother nature cooperates and we will set the next shift up with a clean slate, so to speak, and come in in the morning and drop some chemical on the road and have running water on the roadways,” said Ladley.
