Two dead in crash that closes I-25 near Fountain

The Colorado State Patrol says two people died when the Ford Mustang they were riding in drifted into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a tanker truck.

The crash happened on I-25 at mile marker 125.

Troopers say Joshua Martinez, 27, from Pueblo and Amber Pacino, 22, from Colorado Springs were killed. They say neither was wearing a seat belt. Both were thrown from the car.

Investigators say speed was a big factor in the crash.

“The roads appear clear but of course as you know with the rain last night there’s still some slick surfaces underneath that,” said Cpl. J.R. Benavides.

The driver of the tanker, Paul Hamelin of Pueblo West, was not hurt. State patrol says the diesel fuel that was being carried by the tanker was transferred to a different truck.
