Terror analyst warns of U.S. attacks following Paris standoff
A Colorado Springs terrorism analyst said terrorist groups are now more organized and more funded, primarily by wealthy activists and nation-states in the Middle East.
Meaning France and other countries, including the United States, should be on high alert.
“Seventeen deaths, 17 French people killed in three days. This had not happened for decades. So, there’s relief,” said French Prime Minister Manuel Valls.
But the prime minister said that relief won’t last long.
Terrorism analyst Craig Smith said it shouldn’t.
“I would argue terrorism is stronger now than what we’ve seen in recent years,” Smith said. “The intelligence community, and the world in general, has not witnessed terrorism this well organized, this well funded. Attacks are carried out in such a grandiose and blatant manner.”
Something Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Wednesday.
“The war on terror is not over, not likely to be over anytime soon,” McConnell said.
“All of that money is trickling down to the lone wolf, so he looks like a lone wolf,” Smith said. “What we’re seeing in France is very organized, very deliberate but the ideology is spreading across the globe.”
So, why France?
“In France there’s a big conflict between democracy and radical ideology that’s spreading all over the world,” he said.
And Smith said the attack in France could have happened anywhere.
“There’s no boundaries anymore,” he said.
British intelligence agency MI5 also issued a warning to the United States about a security threat.
Smith said a number of these threats are often foiled by U.S. intelligence officials, we just never know about them.
