Future high school students will have more choices on how to graduate

Colorado high school students will soon have more choices on how they want to graduate.

The Pueblo District 60 School Board met Thursday to discuss the changes in graduation requirements that will start for high school freshman in the 2017-2018 school year.

Board members said the change will give students a chance to test out of classes to fulfill their credits for graduation without taking that class.

D60 Superintendent Dr. Constance Jones said the changes will give students more educational opportunities.

“I think it will challenge students and engage students because they won’t be bored taking a course where they already had the skill set, they can demonstrate mastery and move to a more challenging course,” she said.

D60 also wants to give students a chance to take industry certification classes to prepare them for the workforce after high school.
