Colorado flu outbreak could be starting to ease

Colorado’s flu outbreak could be starting to ease.

Fewer flu cases were reported this week than last week. In addition, several tracking tools used by the state health department show the illness may have peaked during the week between Christmas and New Year’s.

State epidemiologist Lisa Miller told Colorado Public Radio this week’s numbers are “very encouraging.” She says some other flu strains could spread later in the season but she doesn’t think there will be an outbreak like the one that state has already seen.

A total of 1,900 people have hospitalized with the flu in 50 of Colorado’s 64 counties. Two children have died.
