Alleged victim calls mayoral candidate’s claims of a conspiracy ‘lies’
Colorado Springs mayoral candidate Justine Herring is out of jail and for the first time, we’re hearing much more about why she was put in jail.
According to the arrest affidavit, Herring started on the 800 block of Bryce Drive.
The family inside says she stopped her car in the middle of the street and waved a gun and terrorized them as they hid inside.
In an exclusive interview, Justine Herring told KRDO Newschannel 13 her entire arrest was a conspiracy.
“I don’t even have a gun, it’s all this hoopla,” Herring said.
But the arrest affidavit and this woman tell a different story.
“I just said she lied,” said Betty McChriston.
McChriston was at home when Herring stopped at her house Saturday morning.
“She was kicking at the front door,” McChriston said. “When I looked out the window I saw she had the gun, waiving it around, so I stepped back.”
She says Herring never spoke to them just shouted from outside.
McChriston thinks Herring may have been looking for her boyfriend a friend of McChriston’s son.
You can still see tire marks where a car pulled into the yard, and a footprint on the front door.
McChriston says herring eventually left.
According to the arrest affidavit, her next stop was Memorial Park.
That’s where she’s accused of waving an assault rifle at her boyfriend.
McChriston said she never saw the rifle, just a handgun.
“It looked like the Glock. I never saw the rifle,” McChriston said.
And she insists she won’t be voting for the candidate.
“I just hope they don’t let her run for mayor. I hope they take her off. We don’t need nobody like that,”
The affidavit said Herring didn’t show a rifle until she got to the park.
It also said Herring and her boyfriend, Dion Thompson, had a fight the night before.
