UPDATE: Colorado Springs mayoral candidate arrested

A Colorado Springs mayoral candidate is facing several charges including felony menacing and impersonating a peace officer.

Police arrested 48-year-old Justine Herring on Monday.

Herring is accused of pointing an AR-15 rifle at a man and threatening him. It happened in Memorial Park on the afternoon of Jan. 3.

Police also said while threatening the victim, she represented herself as a member of a federal law enforcement agency.

It’s being investigated as a domestic violence incident.

Herring appeared in court Tuesday afternoon. Bond was set at $6,000. She also has a $2,000 bond for another case.

Herring announced her candidacy in November. Mayor Steve Bach said last month that he will not seek another term.

Krista Lamson said she was in jail with Herring. She said Herring was telling other inmates that she still plans for run for mayor. She said Herring also said hoped that this publicity could help generate votes for her for mayor.

Herring has another video advisement on Wednesday.
