Viral video casts new light on mayoral candidate
Justine herring announced weeks ago she’s running for Colorado Springs mayor.
But now, she’s facing charges after police say she was waving around an AR-15 rifle at memorial park on Saturday.
She faces charges of felony menacing and impersonating a federal agent.
Bond was set Tuesday afternoon at $6,000.
Herring’s arrest comes as new video is surfacing of her and a friend recording their nights out on the town.
It’s a video that’s sometimes incoherent and graphic, but casts the mayoral candidate in a completely different light.
Different from the Justine Herring seen at a court video advisement, who seemed cooperative, agreeing to surrender evidence in the arrest that sent her to jail.
But according to a background check, it’s not the first time she’s been in trouble with the law.
A Colorado Courts search reveals a string of misdemeanor offenses, including theft, driving under the influence and domestic violence.
Herring was placed under arrest several times and often pleaded guilty.
But that hasn’t stopped her from launching a campaign for mayor.
Herring has given no indication whether she will end her campaign in light of these charges.
