Amount of snow up in the mountains could be good news for people who use the Arkansas River

More water could be coming to the Arkansas River soon because of the snowfall this season.

The National Weather Service in Pueblo said the amount of snow on the mountains in the Arkansas River Basin near Pueblo is 15 percent above normal so far.

The farmers who use the river for irrigation said this makes them excited.

“We always like to hear about having snow up there. It’s like having water in the bank and that’s what we rely on is the runoff in the spring, the fall runoff and winter storage runoff. We use that water through the season,” Justin Di Santi said. He is the manager of Di Santi Farms.

The NWS said the number is through 40 percent of the season so far. The snowpack season ends in late May.
