A snowy start to the New Year

Just because his name is Jason Chance doesn’t mean he likes taking one with snow falling and the sun setting.

“Driving a truck in this is a lot trickier than driving a four-wheel car,” Chance said.

Chance, a truck driver, had his rig parked for the night in a gas station parking lot after making the haul from Texas Thursday.

“Everything was fine until I hit Colorado Springs, then, we’ve got this,” Chance said.

“I think the thing that surprised us was just the volume and how quick it came down,”said Jack Ladley, a snow manager for Colorado Springs.

The city called out a full crew to clear the roads by midday. While Mother Nature was relentless, the holiday helped since there were fewer cars on the road.

“On a day like today it is pretty free moving and we’re able to cover our roads relatively quickly,” Ladley said.

The goal is to have the roads mostly clear by the morning commute.
