Keeping the furnace from leaving you in the cold

Sub-zero temperatures means that the furnace will be running full time. That’s what the furnace at Kinfolk Salon in Colorado Springs will be doing.

It’s always a warm, inviting place. Even on a cold day.

There’s a reason for that.

“The warm atmosphere always helps for the processing of color,” said Antonio Viloria a stylist at the salon.

What helps to keep it warm is the furnace. It’s been working overtime this week.

That means that companies like Affordable Plumbing and Heat in Colorado Springs are working overtime too.

According to Pat Lemley from Affordable Plumbing and Heat, they’re getting calls from “a lot of people whose furnace has stopped working.”

Before you get a cold surprise, you might want to get the furnace checked out, whether it’s old or new.

While it takes a professional to do a proper checkup there are some things that you can do to keep it working at peak efficiency.

“Make sure that you have a clean filter and that if you have a digital thermostat that the batteries have been changed,” said Lemley.

If you take care of your furnace, it can last for a long time, possibly saving you thousands of dollars.

“If it’s maintained properly, it can last 25 to 30 years,” said Lemley.

The building that Kinfolk is in may be older too, but with renovations and a good heating system Viloria is thrilled with the location.

And if you take care of your heating system, then you can let your hair down when you get home – without having to bundle up.

Lemley says that the filter in your furnace should be changed once a month.
