Car crashes into Colorado Springs business

A car crashed into a Colorado Springs business early Tuesday morning.

It happened around 2 a.m. at Montebello Cleaners in the 4300 block of Montebello Drive, near the intersection of Academy Boulevard and Austin Bluffs Parkway.

Police say the gas pedal of the car got stuck. The driver swerved off the side of the road, through the parking lot, and hit the building instead of driving into traffic.

The driver, described as a man in his 20s, was not hurt but the car came to a stop inside the shop, causing extensive damage.

Shop owner Chris Kim said he had recently renovated his business.

“I thought someone was pranking me,” he said. “I’m waiting to hear from his insurance company to pay the damage. I’ll probably end up being the one who cleans it up.”

Kim says his shop will be open for customers who want to pick up clothes but he won’t be doing any dry cleaning for a while.
