AdAmAn Club hits the trail for New Years Eve

It’s a one-of-a-kind New Year’s Eve tradition many of us will get the chance to see Wednesday night. For hundreds of miles people can see the beautiful fireworks right over Pikes Peak.

On Tuesday morning, we caught up with the hikers responsible; The AdAmAn Club.

“Mark Copelin is our new AdAmAn this year. He’ll be breaking trail. There will be spots where he’ll be hiking through snow up to his waist. He’ll do a great job getting us up there safe and sound,” said David Hunting, a club member who’s hiked the trek for 17 years.

“It’s so supportive and has a great family feel. I feel honored and blessed to be a part of that,” said Mark Copelin, the newest member of the AdAmAn Club.

While most of us are getting ready for our new years eve plans, 31 brave hikers will still be climbing.

“This is probably one of the few times i remember when it was this cold on the day we left, it’s about negative-four right now,” said Hunting.

For some, it’s their first time, but others can say they’ve done the climb 45 times. So clearly, there’s something that keeps them coming back for more.

“There is nothing better and no better way to spend New Year’s Eve, than shooting off high explosives at 14,000 feet. It doesn’t get much better than that,”said Hunting.

The AdAmAn Club is expected to reach the summit Wednesday afternoon. They will set off more than 100 fireworks at the stroke of midnight.
