Colorado Springs vet accused of posting police threat ordered to halfway house

A 33-year-old Colorado Springs man who is accused of posting online threats calling for the killing of current and former police officers was in court Monday.

A judge set bond for Jeremiah M. Perez at $25,000. The judge ordered Perez move into a halfway house when bed spaces become available.

Perez must not access any computers while on bond, and he’s not allowed to have any guns or marijuana.

Perez is a military veteran whose father worked in law enforcement for the Air Force. He was arrested last week after Google tipped the FBI.

Court documents say that Perez, using the name “Vets Hunting Cops,” posted on social media sites that “our group” has killed six retired sheriffs and police officers since Darren Wilson killed Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, in August. He said they would “hunt” two more in Colorado.

Perez reportedly told authorities the posts were “misplaced frustration” and that he never planned to follow through on the violence he researched online.
