Police arrest suspect in apartment shooting

A Colorado Springs man was taken into custody after police said he shot a woman in an apartment building.

Colorado Springs police responded to the Pine Creek Apartments in the 800 block of Chapman Drive after reports of shots fired shortly after midnight Saturday.

When officers arrived, they found a woman with gunshot wounds in her arm and thigh.

Police said they noticed someone driving quickly away from the scene. An officer pulled the car over and the driver was taken into custody.

Police identified the man as 21-year-old Phillip Montes. He’s accused of shooting the woman. Police charged Montes with second-degree assault.

The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting investigation is ongoing.
