Nonprofit group prepares for big Christmas meal

The clock is ticking for an organization that only had a week to prepare meals for about a 1,000 people on Christmas in Pueblo.

The decorations are setup and the food is at the Union Depot in Pueblo as POSADA said it is ready for the annual Christmas meal.

Originally, the Pueblo Rescue Mission hosted the event, but stopped because it lacked resources.

That’s when POSADA picked up the slack.

The nonprofit group had reached the cap on the amount of volunteers it needed a day after it volunteered to take over the more than 20 year Pueblo tradition.

Jerry Carter is one of the organizers of the event. He said even though it is a different group running the meal, the cause is still the same.

“It’s going to be different decorations and a different spirit, but that’s it. When there is a time for need, there is a time for need, so there are different volunteers and a different menu, but it’s a community helping regardless,” he said.

The meal is set to happen at the Pueblo Union Depot at 11 a.m. Christmas Day.
