Tips for avoiding holiday stress, blues
While many are basking in the holiday cheer, some aren’t feeling so jolly this time of the year.
“There’s a lot more people that are out, a lot of people that are shopping, sometimes it’s a traumatic time for people. They lost someone recently or a while ago but it’s still a hard time for them,” Aspen Pointe Senior Program Manager Kathryn Dosch said.
She said the shorter days and longer nights can also leave people feeling a little blue.
“Having more darkness kind of makes us feel naturally sleepier, not wanting to get out of bed, having a little bit less motivation to do things,” Dosch said.
Her advice is to keep your routine as much as possible, without changing your schedule too much; take time to get outside; refrain from excessive amounts of caffeine or alcohol; and be around people who support you.
