Clouds Roll into Southern Colorado, Snow Expected Tonight

Today: Travel weather through most of the area will be good today, but there will be some heavy snow in the mountains, so if you’re heading back from the ski resorts it will be a rough go. More than a foot will fall in some areas west of Buena Vista and Leadville. Otherwise we expect quiet and dry conditions through the day, with temperatures warming into the 40s and 50s. Most of the weekend snow will take place in the higher terrain, along the continental divide.

Tonight: The rain and snow spreads eastward tonight and by tomorrow morning the rain and snow will by flying over parts of El Paso and Douglas Counties. That could mean some slick spots on the roadways during the morning commute.

Extended: Monday will be a wild day of weather, however, with temperatures warming into the 50s to near 60s in the morning before a cold front moves through during the second half of the day. Temperatures will plummet during the afternoon/evening, with a rain/snow mix developing and expanding. We’ll get a break from the showers Tuesday and Wednesday… but on Christmas Day our next storm system is going to move in potentially bringing a White Christmas! It looks like the storm may not have the impact that was expected, but it’s too early to narrow down the details just yet. We’ll be keeping a very close eye on this storm system as it approaches.
